This is the wifi network page from your Dlink DIR-655 router.

On this new page, start by making sure the Enable Wireless box is checked.

Next you need to set a Wireless Network Name. This can be whatever you want. However, due to security reasons we strongly recommend that you avoid any sort of personal information. For more info check out our Wireless Names Guide.

Now make sure the box marked Enable Auto Channel Scan is unchecked. Then set the Wireless Channel to either 1, 6, or 11. To learn why these are the best options read our WiFi Channels Guide.

Following that set the Security Mode to WPA-Personal. Then set the WPA Mode to WPA2 only. To find out why this will give you the strongest security see our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

The Cipher Type should be set to AES.

Lastly you'll need to set a Pre-Shared Key. This will serve as your network password and can be anything you want. However keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and doesn't contain any personal information. For more help check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

That's all there is to it. Just be sure to click Save Settings near the top of the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
