Setup WiFi on the Dlink DIR-655

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Dlink DIR-655

This WiFi guide begins on the Setup page of the Dlink DIR-655 router. To configure the wireless settings, click the choice in the left sidebar labeled WIRELESS SETTINGS.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DIR-655

Click the button at the bottom of this page labeled Manual Wireless Network Setup.

This takes you to a new page where the first thing you need to do is change the Wireless Network Name. This is the name you give your wireless network so that you can identify it later on. Now to change the channel if you need to. First, uncheck the box next to Enable Auto Channel Scan. Then use the drop down menu next to Wireless Channel to choose from 1,6, or 11. To learn why these three channels are important, read our guide by clicking this link.

Next is the Security Mode. We recommend using WPA-Personal for home networks. To learn the differences in the security options, read our guide by clicking this link.

In the section titled WPA, choose the option of WPA2 Only.

Set the Cipher Type to AES. This is also sometimes referred to as the encryption method.

After that is the Pre-Shared Key. Use this box to enter a strong password of at least 14-20 characters in length. We also recommend using some symbols, numbers and letters in your password. To learn how to create a strong password that is memorable, read our guide by clicking this link.

That's all there is to it, just click the Save Settings button at the top of the page before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
