Setup WiFi on the Trendnet TEW-435BRM

The Trendnet TEW-435BRM router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The Trendnet TEW-435BRM

Find the WiFi Settings on the Trendnet TEW-435BRM

This guide begins on the Home page of the TRENDnet TEW-435BRMv3 router. To setup the wireless, click the link in the left sidebar labeled Wireless.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Trendnet TEW-435BRM

You should now be on a page like the one you see here.

In the section titled Identification:

  • Select the Region - Use the drop down menu to pick the region in which you are using this router.
  • Change the SSID (Service Set Identifier) - This is your network name or ID and should be unique. It doesn't really matter what you enter here but as a safety precaution it's a good idea to avoid personal information. Learn all about SSIDs in our Wireless Name Guide.

In the next section called Options:

  • Choose your 802.11 Mode - This is asking what type of wireless standard you are using. This router if fairly old and only has the capability of dealing with wireless devices older than 2009. If you want to update your wireless standards, you will need to update your firmware.
  • Change your Channel - Use this drop down menu and pick from channels 1,6, or 11. To learn why, check out this guide.

For the third section we have the Wireless Security.

  • Click the Configure button.

  • Security System - This is asking what type of security you want to use. This router only allows for WEP and WPA. We strongly recommend updating your firmware to allow for WPA2-PSK.
  • You should also be asked for the PSK or possibly the Passphrase. This is the internet password and should be strong. We recommend using at least 14 characters. If you need help, check out this guide.
  • Click Save and then click the Close button in the lower right corner.

This takes you back to the previous page. Nothing else needs to be changed, just Save your changes before you leave this page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
