Setup WiFi on the Dlink AirPlus DI-614+

The Dlink AirPlus DI-614+ router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Dlink AirPlus DI-614+

To get started configuring the Dlink AirPlus DI-614+ WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Dlink AirPlus DI-614+

Starting on the Home page of the Dlink DI-614+ router, click the link in the left sidebar labeled Wireless.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink AirPlus DI-614+

You are now directed to a page similar to the one you see here. Use the first box labeled SSID to enter a name you like. This is the name you give your network so that you can identify it later on. Don't use personal information here. Refer to our guide titled Wireless Names for more information on this topic.

Below that is the Channel. This is the channel you broadcast your wireless information on, be sure you are using channel 1,6, or 11. To learn why these channels are important, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

This particular firmware version only allows WEP Encryption. WEP can be cracked within minutes. We strongly recommend updating your firmware version to allow for a much more secure option of WPA2-PSK. Please read our guide on WEP vs. WPA for more info on this topic.

Click the green Apply button before exiting.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
