Reset the Netgear Nighthawk R7000

If you need to reset your Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router back to factory settings, then this article shows you how. A router reset is a much bigger deal than a router reboot. Turning a router off and back on again causes a reboot. However, when you reset a router you, return it back to its factory default settings.

Warning: Make sure that you fully understand the following before resetting your router. When you reset your router, the following will happen.

  • The router's login credentials are reset to factory defaults.
  • Your WiFi login, password, and network name are reset.
  • All ISP settings will reset to default, and you may have to contact your ISP.
  • All parental controls, firewall settings, and port forwards will be removed.

Reset the Netgear Nighthawk R7000

Most of the time you can find a small reset button located on either the back or the bottom of a router. Most reset buttons look like this:

Reset buttons are usually tiny. Yours may look slightly different than this. If you find a pinhole on the back of the router then that may be the reset button. You will need a paper clip to push it.

Watch the lights on the front of your router and hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds. You should notice that the blinking pattern of the lights on the front of the router changes after a few seconds. It is harmless to hold the reset button too long.

Remember, this will totally reset your Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router.

Login to the Netgear Nighthawk R7000
