Reset the Technicolor CGM4140COM

This article covers how to reset the Technicolor CGM4140COM router back to factory default settings. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. A reboot happens every time a router loses power. A Router Reset completely erases the router and returns it to factory settings.

Warning: Before you continue, there are a few things you need to know. The following settings in your router will be changed:

  • The router's username and password are reset.
  • Your WiFi name and password are reset.
  • Your ISP username and password will be reset, and you may have to contact your ISP.
  • Any firewall settings, parental controls, or port forwards that you have configured will be removed.

Resetting your router should be considered the last step. Make sure that you have tried to recover your router password using our Router Password Finder first.

On most routers you can find a small button on the back or the bottom labeled reset. What you are looking for is something that looks like this:

Your reset button may look different, but usually they are very small. Sometimes the button is under a pinhole, and you need a paper clip to push it.

Watch the front panel lights while you hold the reset button down for at least 10 seconds. Notice how the lights on the front of the router are blinking. When the lights do something different, the router is reset. Do not worry about holding the button down too long; this is harmless.

Just don't forget that this will totally reset your Technicolor CGM4140COM router.
