How to Reset the Dlink DI-604

On this page I will be explaining how to reset the Dlink DI-604v4 router back to the original factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the device. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them all to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting the router can be problematic if you don't understand what settings are changed. We strongly recommend making a list of settings you know will be changed. Consider the following:

  • The router's login username and password are reverted back to factory defaults.
  • If you have made other changes these need to be written down. This could include anything from a IP address to a forwarded port.

Reset the Dlink DI-604

The first step in this reset is to locate the reset button. On this particular router you can find it on the back panel. Take a look at the following image.

Take an unfolded paperclip and press on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't press this down for long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember this will erase every single setting you have ever changed on this unit. We recommend trying other troubleshooting methods first in order to avoid this loss.

Login to the Dlink DI-604

Following that you'll need to log into your Dlink DI-604v4 router. This is done using the factory default username and password. We have these waiting for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not logging you in? It could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

After logging in we recommend setting a new password. Keep in mind that this password only protects your router. For help in doing that check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it down on a sticky note and putting on the bottom of your router.
