Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Actiontec MI424WR to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Login To The Actiontec MI424WR

Forward a Port on the Actiontec MI424WR router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Actiontec MI424WR

You begin on the Main page of the Actiontec M1424-WR-Rev-C Router. To begin the port forwarding process, click the link at the top of the page labeled Firewall Settings. Now looking to the left of the screen you should see a new list of options. Pick the one titled Port Forwarding.

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

You are then taken to a page that looks very similar to the one you see here.

First, use the drop down menu labeled Create new port forwarding rule, to choose the IP address of the computer you are forwarding these ports to. This drop down menu should contain all the devices visible on your network.

Moving to the right, use the next drop down menu that says, Application to Forward... to choose Custom Ports. You can also one of the pre-configured applications if you see the one you need.

If you have chosen Custom Ports, two new boxes appear. The first one is the Protocol drop down menu. From this menu, choose the type of protocol you plan on using to forward these ports.

Finally there is the Port box. Enter the port you are forwarding here.

Under that, click the blue Add button, then at the bottom of the page, pick Apply.

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Actiontec MI424WR you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
