This guide shows you how to reset your Actiontec M1424-WR-Rev-F router to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as rebooting the router which consists of turning the router off and back on again. Resetting the router is more complicated and it reverts the router back to the original factory settings.
Warning: Resetting the router should not be done unless you have considered the following:
- Your main router password and username will be reset.
- The WiFi username and password are reset to factory settings.
- If you have a DSL router you need to know the username and password from your ISP in order to use the Internet.
- All configurations you have made to personalize this router will be erased. You will need to re-enter these after the reset is complete.

Reset the Actiontec MI424WR
While the router is turned on flip it over so you are looking at the back of it.
Using the end of a paperclip or other small object press and hold the reset button for around 10 seconds. After releasing the reset button your Actiontec M1424-WR-Rev-F will begin the reset process. All the lights on the front will turn off and then some of them will begin to flash.
Warning: Do not unplug or turn off your router. This can cause permanent damage.
Resetting the router erases everything you have previously done to it. Make sure you have tried other options before resetting your router.
Login to the Actiontec MI424WR
Once you have reset the Actiontec M1424-WR-Rev-F router you need to login using the default username and password. We have a Login Guide for you if you are interested.
Change Your Password
