Setup WiFi on the Belkin F9K1002

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Belkin F9K1002

Begin on the Status page of the Belkin F9K1002v4 router. Then, click the link on the left side of the page labeled Channel and SSID.

You are taken to a page like the one you see above. The first thing you should check is the Wireless Channel. Be sure you are on channel 1,6, or 11. For more on this, read our guide titled WiFi channels.

Now, skip down to the SSID. This is the name you give your wireless network so that you can identify it. When you do this, avoid using any personal information. For more on this topic, check out our guide titled Wireless names.

When you are finished with those things, click the Apply Changes button. Then, click the Security choice in the left sidebar.

You should now be on a page like the one you see here. First, the Security Mode should be set to WPA/WPS-Personal(PSK). For more on this, read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

The Authentication is just narrowing down your choice above. Choose WPA2-PSK.

The last thing on this page is the Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you will use to access your network. We recommend using a strong password here of at least 20 characters. Don't use any personal information here, don't use any real words here. Do use some symbols, capital letters, and numbers in your password. Finally, click the Apply Changes button. Congratulations, you did it!

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
