WiFi Terms
Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.
Wireless Name
Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.
Wireless Password
An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.
Wireless Channel
Picking a WiFi channel is not always a simple task. Be sure to read about WiFi channels before making the choice.
Encryption
You should almost definitely pick WPA2 for your networks encryption. If you are unsure, be sure to read our WEP vs WPA guide first.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Belkin F9K1002

On this page, use the Wireless Channel drop down menu to choose a channel. You need to be on channel 1,6, or 11. These three channels are the most you can get out of the spectrum without overlapping. For more on this topic, check out our guide titled WiFi channels.
Now, find the box labeled SSID. This is the name you give your local network so you can identify it. We recommend not using personal information here. For more information on this topic, check out our guide titled Wireless names.
The last thing you should do on this page is click the green Save button. Then tick the tab at the top of the page labeled Security.

You should now be on a page like the one you see here. The first setting that needs your attention is the Security Mode. Choose the option of WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK). For more information on why this is the best choice, check out our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.
Next is the Authentication. This is just narrowing down your choice you made in the security mode list. You need to choose WPA2-PSK for the strongest form of encryption.
The Pre-Shared Key (PSK) is the password you use to access your network. We recommend using at least 20 characters in your password. Don't use actual words, these are easily cracked using dictionary programs. We also suggest not using any personal information as this could be guessed. However you can and should use symbols, capital letters, and numbers in your password. For more on this topic, I've created a guide titled Choosing a strong password that can help you create a strong password that is memorable.
Click the green Save button when you are through. That's it, you're finished.
Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings
After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
