Setup WiFi on the Belkin F9K1102

The Belkin F9K1102 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Login To The Belkin F9K1102

Find the WiFi Settings on the Belkin F9K1102

This guide begins on the Status page of the Belkin F9K1102v2 router. To configure the WiFi settings click the link on the left side of the page labeled Channel and SSID.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Belkin F9K1102

There are two columns on this page on the left is 2.4GHz and on the right is 5GHz. If you are unsure of which to fill in, we suggest filling in 2.4GHz. Only if all your wireless devices were made after 2012 should you use 5GHz. Older devices won't work on 5GHz.

In the first drop down list titled Wireless Channel be sure you are on the correct channel, 1,6, or 11. For more information on why you should only be using one of these three channels, check out our guide titled WiFi channels.

Now, find the box labeled SSID. This is the name you give your WiFi network so that you can identify it when needed. This name should contain no personal information. Look at our guide titled Wireless names for more n this topic.

Click the Apply Changes button, then Security in the left sidebar.

You are now on the page you see above. The first thing you need to do is make sure that your Security Mode is set to WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK). For more on why this is the mode you should use, read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

Below that is the Authentication. This just narrows your security mode down even farther. Choose WPA2-PSK here.

The Pre-Shared Key (PSK) is the password you use when you want to access your local network. This should be a strong password of at least 20 characters. Don't use any personal information. Don't use any real words. Do use some symbols, capital letters, and numbers. For help in creating a strong and memorable password, check out our guide titled Choosing a strong password.

Finally, click the Apply Changes button and you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
