Setup WiFi on the Dlink AirPlus DI-524

The Dlink AirPlus DI-524 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

You begin on then Home page of the Dlink DI-524v3 router. To configure the WiFi settings, click the option on the left labeled Wireless.

  1. Find the box labeled SSID. This is the name you use to identify your network from the others around you. Don't use any personal information here. Learn more by reading our Wireless Names Guide.
  2. Below that is the Channel. Be sure you are using the correct channel of 1,6, and 11. These channels are the only ones that should be being used, read our WiFi Channels Guide to learn why.
  3. Drop down to the Security choices. The best option here is WPA-PSK. Updating your firmware would allow for WPA2-PSK which is the best option for home networks. Learn more by reading our WEP vs. WPA Guide.
  4. A box should now appear that reads Passphrase. This is the password you use to gain access to your wireless network. Be sure to use at least 20 characters here. Avoid personal information. Avoid any words found in a dictionary. Use at least one symbol, capital letter, and number. To learn more, read our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.
  5. Click the Apply button when you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
