In this guide I will be explaining how to reset the Dlink DI-624v2 router back to it's original factory defaults. It's important that you understand that this is not the same thing as a reboot. When I use the word reboot I am referring to a complete shutdown in power to the unit. No settings are changed in a reboot. When I use the word reset I am referring to a complete factory restore. Any setting you have changed since owning the router are erased and put back to how they were out of the factory.

Warning: Resetting this router is a big step in troubleshooting. We recommend considering other options first. Re-configuring the router is necessary after this process is complete. Consider the following before you continue:

  • The router setup username and password are erased and replaced with the factory defaults.
  • The Internet name and Internet password are erased as well.
  • If you use a DSL type of connection you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. We suggest calling your local ISP for the details.
  • If you have made any other changes they should be written down so you can reconfigure them later.

Use a VPN Instead

Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.

We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.

When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:

  • Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
  • Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
  • Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
  • Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
  • Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.

This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.

Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.

NordVPN is the fastest VPN!

Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.

The first step in a reset is to know where the reset button is located. For this D'link model you can find it on the back panel. Take a look at the image below, I have circled the location for you in red.

Take the tip of a sharp pencil or pen and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold the button down for long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember this reset is erasing every single personal configuration you have made to this device. To avoid this loss of information we strongly suggest trying other methods of troubleshooting first.

Login to the Dlink AirPlus DI-624

Now that you've reset the Dlink DI-624v2 router you'll need to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password provided to you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held for long enough.

Change Your Password

After logging in you should set a new password. This can be whatever you want it to be, however keep in mind that a strong password consists of 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. For more help in creating a strong password check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Afraid of losing your new password? Try writing it on a note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
