On this page I explain how to reset the Dlink DI-624v5 router back to it's original factory defaults. It's important that you realize this is not the same thing as a reboot. In this guide when I refer to a reboot I am talking about a physical shutdown of power to the unit in order to fully cycle the power to the device. This is done to solve minor problems such as an error. When I use the word reset I am referring to a complete factory restore. This means every single setting you have ever changed since owning this device is erased and put back to how it was out of the factory.

Warning: Resetting this router can cause even more problems for you if you are unaware of exactly what settings change and what ones do not. We suggest making a list of the settings you have changed. Consider the following:

  • The router's setup username and password are restored to factory defaults.
  • The Internet name and password are erased and reverted back to original factory settings.
  • If you own a DSL connection you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. We recommend calling your ISP for the details.
  • Any other changes you have made such as forwarded ports or IP addresses need to re-configured after the reset is complete.

Use a VPN

Have you considered using a VPN when you connect to the internet? A VPN is a great way to increase your security and anonymity while surfing.

We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes securely sharing your home network super simple. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.

When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:

  • Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
  • Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
  • Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
  • Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
  • Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.

This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.

Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.

NordVPN birthday deal!

Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.

Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.

The first step in this reset is to locate the reset button. Take a look at the back panel of this unit. I have circled the reset button in red.

Using a sharp object such as an unfolded paperclip or pin press and hold the reset button for approximately 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold this button down for the entire amount of time you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Please remember this reset erases every setting you have ever changed on this device. To avoid this you need to try other ways of fixing the problem you're having.

Login to the Dlink AirPlus DI-624

Once you've reset the Dlink DI-624v5 router you'll need to log into it. Do this by using the default username and password. Not sure where to find these? We have them waiting for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it may be because the reset button wasn't held for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've logged into your router you should set a new password for it. Keep in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. All the same, it's always a good idea to set a strong password. For help in doing that be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Afraid you'll lose new password? Try writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
