On this new page, find the SSID and enter an appropriate name in the box. This name is the name you are giving your network so you can identify it later on. Refer to our Wireless Names Guide for more info on the SSID.

Under that is the Channel. There is only room in the spectrum for up to three channels that don't overlap due to how wide the channels are. These channels are 1,6, and 11. Be sure to use one of these three channels. To learn more about this topic, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

Next is the Authentication. There are four possible choices here, the best option is WPA-PSK. If you want the best security for today's technology, we recommend updating your firmware. To learn more about the different security options, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

Now a Passphrase box appears. Use this to enter a strong password. This password is not only used to grant access to your network, but to encrypt your private information. Make this password strong at least 20 characters. Learn more about this by reading our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Enter the password again in the box labeled Confirmed Passphrase.

Tick Apply in the lower right corner.

That's it, you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
