How to Reset the Dlink AirPlus DI-624

In this guide I show you how to properly reset the Dlink DI-624v3 router back to it's original factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When I use the word reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device or a physical shutdown of the power to the device. When I use the word reset in this guide I am referring to an erasure of all your personal settings. This means every setting you have ever changed is reverted back to the original factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this router can cause additional problems for you if you are unaware of what settings are changed and what ones are not. We recommend making up a list of all the settings you have ever changed on your device. As you make this list, consider the following:

  • The router's setup username and password.
  • The Internet name and password.
  • ISP username and password (if you use a DSL connection).
  • Port forwards? IP address changes? DMZ settings?

Reset the Dlink AirPlus DI-624

The first step in resetting the Dlink DI-624v3 router is to locate the physical reset button. For this model of Dlink you can find it on the back panel. Take a look at the image below. I have circled the location of the reset button in red.

Taking the tip of an unfolded paperclip, press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold this button down for the entire amount of time you end up simply rebooting the router instead of resetting it.

Remember resetting this router causes all your personal settings to be erased. To avoid this loss you should try other methods of troubleshooting before you continue.

Login to the Dlink AirPlus DI-624

Following that you'll need to log into the Dlink DI-624v3 router. This is done by using the default username and password. Don't know where to find these? We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults don't seem to be working for you it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

After logging into your router we suggest setting a new password. This can be anything you want, however bear in mind that a strong password includes no personal information and is 14-20 characters in length. For more help be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Prevent yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.

Setup WiFi on the Dlink DI-624v3

Finally it's time to check on the wireless settings. This includes the SSID, the Internet password, and the security method. We recommend setting the security to WPA2 for the strongest and most up-to-date encryption.
