Setup WiFi on the Dlink DIR-615

The Dlink DIR-615 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Use a VPN Instead

Starting on the INTERNET CONNECTION page of the Dlink DIR-615v5 router, click the choice in the left sidebar labeled WIRELESS SETTINGS.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DIR-615

You are then directed to a page like the one you see here. Click the button near the bottom of the page labeled Manual Wireless Network Setup.

This takes you to a page where there are some things that need to be changed.

  • The first is the Wireless Network Name. This is the name you create to identify your wireless network. Be creative but don't use personal information. To learn more about this, read our guide titled Wireless Names.
  • Next is the Wireless Channel. This can be changed by unchecking the box labeled Enable Auto Wireless Channel Scan. Then choose the channel you want to use from the Wireless Channel pull down menu. Make sure to use only channel 1,6, or 11 only. To learn why, read our WiFi Channels Guide.
  • Now find the Security Mode list, choose WPA-Personal. If you want to know more about the different security options, read our guide by clicking this link.
  • Narrow down your WPA choice even more by choosing the option of WPA2 Only. This is considered the most secure option available today.
  • The last thing you need to change is the Pre-Shared Key is the password you use to gain access to your network. This should be a strong password of at lest 14-20 characters in length with a mix of symbols, numbers, and letters.   • That's it, just don't forget to click the Save Settings button before exiting.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
