You should now be on a page similar to the one you see here. First you may need to click the button near the bottom of the page labeled Manual Wireless Configuration.

First, you should change the Wireless Network Name. This is the name you give your wireless network so that you can distinguish it from the others around you. Be creative but try and avoid personal information. To learn more about this topic, read our guide by clicking this link.

If you want to change the Wireless Channel you first need to uncheck the box labeled Enable Auto Channel Scan. Then, use the pull-down list next to Wireless Channel and choose the channel you want to use, be sure that it is channel 1,6, or 11. To learn why you should be using one of these channels, read the guide about WiFi channels by clicking this link.

Next, find the Security Mode. Use this drop down menu to choose the option of WPA-Personal. To learn more about the security option differences, read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

In the section titled WPA use the WPA Mode drop down menu to choose the most secure option of WPA2 Only.

The last thing you need to change is the Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. We recommend using at least 14-20 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols in your password. To learn more about this topic, read our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.

All that is left to do is click the Save Settings button near the top of the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
