Setup WiFi on the Belkin F6D4230-4

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Belkin F6D4230-4

Find the WiFi Settings on the Belkin F6D4230-4

Begin on the Status page of the Belkin F6D4230-4v1 router. To configure the WiFi settings, click the link on the left side of the page labeled Channel and SSID.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Belkin F6D4230-4

You should now be on a page like the one you see above. The first thing you need to change is the Wireless Channel. Be sure you are on channel 1,6, or 11. For more on this subject, check out our guide titled WiFi channels.

The other setting on this page that needs to be changed is the SSID. This is the name you give your network so you can identify it. When creating a name, don't use personal information. Check out our guide titled Wireless names.

Click the option below labeled Apply Changes. Then, on the left side of the page choose the option of Security.

On this new page, change the Security Mode to WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK). For more information on why, check out our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

Next is the Authentication. Choose WPA2-PSK.

Below that is the Encryption Technique. There are two choices here, TKIP and AES. We recommend choosing AES. AES is much newer and considered extremely secure.

The last thing on this page is the Password(PSK). This is the password you use to access your network. Create a strong password of at least 20 characters. Avoid using personal information, and real words that can be found in a dictionary. Do use symbols, capital letters, and numbers. Click the blue button labeled Apply Changes.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
